SPRINT project partners held kick-off meeting in Gijón, Spain

The partners of the European SPRINT project (2024-2026) met on 10 July 2024 at the Polytechnic School of Engineering of Gijón to hold the first face-to-face meeting of the consortium. This meeting, key to the start of the project, allowed the participants to share the progress made to date and strengthen the basis for collaboration between the different actors involved. Throughout the day, the key tasks of the project were distributed and quality indicators were established to ensure its proper development and monitoring over the next two years.

"To zero food waste"

The main objective of the SPRINT project, funded by the European Commission through the Single Market Programme (SMP), is to collaborate with different actors in the agri-food sector to co-create innovative and effective intervention strategies to change behavioural patterns and curb food waste. The initiative involves seven Spanish partners, from Asturias and Catalonia, who will play a key role in its development.

The consortium, led by Innovasturias as coordinator, includes CREDA (Centro de Investigación en Economía y Desarrollo Agroalimentario), the technology centre ASINCAR, the technology companies Abamobile and CIS Robotics, and the firms ARTIEM Hoteles and MasyMas, which will act as protagonists in the use cases that will be implemented throughout the project. SPRINT, which officially began on 1 June 2024 and will run until 31 May 2026, aims to generate a positive and lasting impact on the reduction of food waste, involving technology companies, research centres and actors from the commercial sector.

During the kick-off meeting, the representatives of the consortium member organisations visited the Gijón campus facilities, where they were able to learn about the capabilities of the host institution. Likewise, each partner presented its organisation and detailed its role within the project, which favoured the exchange of ideas and proposals aimed at ensuring the quality and success of SPRINT. With this inaugural day, the joint commitment to work collaboratively to achieve the ambitious goals set was reinforced.
