Masymas and COGERSA promote the campaign "Every food counts"

In Asturias, Supermercados masymas (Hijos de Luis Rodríguez), in collaboration with COGERSA (Consorcio para la Gestión de Residuos Sólidos de Asturias), intensifies its actions within the European project SPRINT - Zero Food Waste, with a campaign with a very clear name: "Every food counts", an initiative that seeks to involve people in the battle against food waste and, incidentally, to promote responsible purchasing and consumption habits.

The campaign is not just about fine words. It is supported by very practical tools that are available to all users: in-store posters, in-person workshops, digital publications and even collaborations with specialists in the field.

Since 4 July, for example, visitors to Masymas shops have already come across posters at the entrance, in the greengrocer's shop or at the checkout. They include useful tips for menu planning, clear explanations of the difference between "best before" and "best before" dates (which often confuses some people), and tips on how to give a second life to those foods that we sometimes think are lost.

There is also a QR code on the boxes that leads to a recipe booklet produced by COGERSA. There you will find very specific suggestions: how to make the most of leftover bread, what to do with overripe fruit, or how to make the most of leftover meat and vegetables, among other very interesting topics. It is, in a way, like when grandma or our parents used to remind us that "nothing should be thrown away here".

But not everything happens inside the shop. Masymas has also published an institutional blog institutional blog that combines data (some of it quite surprising about what is thrown away in Spain) with simple tips for organising the fridge or pantry. In addition to this, there is a map produced by COGERSA showing which foods are most wasted in households. And, of course, the campaign is also being reinforced through social networks such as LinkedIn and Instagram, where it is achieving visibility beyond the supermarket aisles.

An important point of this campaign lies in the collaboration with COGERSA. Thanks to this alliance, specific materials have been designed, both informative and educational, which reinforce the educational dimension of the initiative. It is an example of how the public and private sectors can work together on something so everyday and so global at the same time: preventing food from ending up in the rubbish bin.

And there is more to come. On 18 September, in the masymas 360º space in the Parque Principado Shopping Centre (Asturias), a workshop open to the public will be held. It will be a very practical meeting: they will talk about how to reuse food, home preservation methods to extend the life of food and how to organise the kitchen efficiently. In addition, recipes will be shared inspired by the book Resaborea, published by COGERSA, which shows that even leftovers can be transformed into delicious dishes with lots of flavour.

By promoting this initiative, masymas and the SPRINT project not only reaffirm their commitment to reducing food waste, but also demonstrate something very important: that small gestures count. Because planning your shopping, giving leftovers a second chance or reusing a piece of stale bread may not seem like much... but together, they make a huge difference.
